Adventures in Babysitting

Here’s the first idea for the spring cover of Hidden City Quarterly!

I decided I’d try to ink it with a nib pen, but wow, I totally messed it up! One day I really need to sit down and teach myself how to ink.

I ended up redrawing it and “inking” the picture with a black col-erase pencil. Here’s what I ended up with! I’m still not entirely happy with the colors… I wanted it to be a little more atmospheric, but I think it still works!

Grub a dub dub

Here are some more versions of the Grub Street cover! It looks like the editor might be going with the first image. I also drew some bugs for the inside of the magazine… it ended up being a lot of fun! Insects are pretty fascinating and come in so many cool shapes you don’t really see anywhere else in nature.

Grub Street!

This might be the final Grub Street cover… yay!

Sketchy

Drawing some people on my lunch break. I accidentally spilled coffee on my paper, but ended up using it as some makeshift watercolor paint… good times :)

Working on it…

Another comic will be up soon… stay tuned!

Finally Final

Hidden City

Here’s the cover for the next Hidden City Quarterly! (http://www.hcquarterly.com) I don’t know if it looks as unified as I’d like, but I did do it while I was feeling pretty sickly, so all things considered I think it came out okay.

Also, I feel a little bit like this guy today:
